Restylane Reno - Wrinkle Treatment

In the endless quest to rid our faces of signs of premature aging, new developments are always exciting. One of the newest on the scene is a wrinkle and tissue filler called Restylane. Similar to collagen and micro-fat transfer, Restylane can be injected into wrinkles and folds to smooth out deeper, unwanted lines. Restylane can also be used to make thin lips fuller, to fill in scars and to give a fuller appearance to sunken cheeks.

While there are many different options available to tackle slack skin and wrinkles, it really depends on the type of wrinkle as well as the placement of the wrinkle, to determine which procedure is best for each individual. Lines between the eyes at the top of the nose (called a glabellar fold) and the lines that form from the sides of the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds) as well as lines that move south from the corners of the mouth can all be successfully treated with Restylane. And the results are amazing and last much longer than traditional collagen or botox treatments.

About Restylane
While Restylane is biotechnically created in a sterile lab setting, it is made of completely organic, naturally occurring substances found in all living organisms. Called Bio-degradable non-Animal Stabalized Hyaluronic Acid (or NASHA), Restylane lasts more than double the time of typical Collagen and Botox treatments. Because it is not derived from animals (as Collagen is), the risk of allergic reaction is dramatically decreased. In fact, the only “allergic” type reactions have been from people with hypersensitivities.

Restylane was approved by the FDA in December 2003, so it is a new and exciting treatment here in the US. But over 1 million women have been using it for years in 60 other countries as well with great results.

About Restylane Treatments
Restylane is administered with a very fine needle. Restylane is carefully injected along the treatment area — wrinkles, folds, lips, scars. While it is not a painful procedure, a local or topical anesthetic can be used in conjunction with the injections. A typical treatment takes less than 30 minutes and requires no downtime or limitations — you can get right back to your life. An even greater benefit? The results are immediate.

Most treatments are performed right in the doctor’s office, leaving you free to go home or back to work afterwards. You also have the option to combine Restylane treatments with another type of procedure you may be having such as a Face Lift or other skin improvement therapies.

Risks and Complications
Restylane has fewer risks and reported complications when compared to comparable treatments. Unlike collagen fillers, there is little-to-no risk of allergic reactions — this means that you will no longer need to be tested a month prior to treatment to ensure that you are not allergic to Restylane. This is because Restylane’s main ingredients are derived from plants, not from animals.

Some risks do exist and include tenderness, prolonged swelling, redness or skin discoloration and some discomfort. It is common to have the treated area slightly swollen and itchy for the first two days or week (if applied to the lips).

Benefits of Restylene
Restylane’s benefits are really exciting. Results last about nine months — compare that with the three to four month duration of Botox® or Collagen and you begin to see why this new treatment is so buzz-worthy. Restylane is derived from plants, not animals, so very few people have allergic reactions to it and you will not be required to have pre-treatment allergen tests.

Restylane’s natural properties account for the natural, smooth look it produces in faces. Deep lines and wrinkles seem to vanish — some without any trace that they were ever there to begin with. The face immediately begins to look younger and more relaxed and refreshed.

Restylane works great on its own and can also be easily incorporated with other treatments such as Face Lift and Laser Peels. Talk to Dr. Volshteyn if you are interested in having Restylane treatments added to an existing planned procedure.

It is an exciting time in the Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery world. New technologies and developments such as Restylane help to give people more and better choices when deciding how to tackle youth-promoting procedures. Restylane lasts longer than other treatments and has fewer side effects. Definitely a procedure to be excited about.
